Hva er VideoActiveX Object?

Det er en infeksjon som gir seg ut for å være et video-kodek. Brukeren er ikke tillatt å se filminnhold uten dette kodeket, dermed blir han bedt om å laste det ned fra VideoActiveX Object. En dialogboks med feilmelding kommer da til syne: ”Nettleseren din kan ikke vise denne videofilen. Du må laste ned en ny versjon av VideoActiveX Object for å spille av denne filmfilen”. En trojan blir installert på PCen også, og utvikler falske sikkerhetsvarsler om virus og spyware funnet på offerets maskin. Disse varslene blir vist med den hensikt å skremme brukeren og tvinge ham til å kjøpe falsk anti-spyware programvare.
Etter VideoActiveX Object nedlastingen, blir Security Toolbar 7.1 lagt til i Internet Explorer og hjemmesiden blir gjort om til asecurityassurance.com.
